April 2016 Steel City Con
On April 15th, 2016, I set out to attend Steel City Con at the Monroeville Convention Center. For those who don't know, I volunteer to take photographs with Star Wars costuming groups the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion (I'm working on a costume for the Rebel Legion ;)).
We packed 2 cars bottom to top with Star Wars helmets, costumes, and even a mannequin (who we later named Manakin Skywalker, or Manny for short). The con lasted 3 days, and we arrived bright and early at 10am on day 1. Here are a couple selfies of me in the car, and our table set ups!
While day 1 was slightly uneventful, day 2 was the day to be there. The con actually sold out, leaving a huge line wrapping around the building. Some people were waiting for hours to get in. Luckily the legions went to the rescue to entertain people stuck outside.
Garrison Carida of the 501st Legion was able to collaborate with the awesome charity Extra Life. This charity unites gamers around the world to support Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. They have raised over $14 million dollars for local hospitals alone. At the con, they had a table set up where anyone could play Battlefront with a Star Wars character.
During day 3 of Steel City Con, we had the awesome pleasure of being able to take photos with the real Darth Vader and C-3P0 (Anthony Daniels & David Prowse!).
A few other celebrities wanted to join in on the fun too. Erik Estrada, Terry Kiser (Bernie from Weekend at Bernie's), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite!) all took photos with our groups!
So many amazing, awesome, and fun moments happened that weekend, but in my opinion, photos tell better stories than words. Enjoy the rest of my favorite shots & thanks for reading! :)
